It’s been six months but I still remember it like it was yesterday – my baby boy turning 1!
I wanted to go all out and luckily, this was pre 2020 COVID-19 pandemic… I planned the most perfect Wild One Birthday Theme for my sweet little boy!

Picking A First Birthday Theme
My first stop in planning was on Pinterest of course. I found so many cute Wild One themed birthday party ideas so I used that as my inspiration and started to plan!
I got an early start so that I would not be stressed. I did delegate some things and I had good intentions but it still all came together at the last minute!
See my Pinterest inspiration board here. There is a little woodland inspiration in there too which is also a trending birthday party theme.
But none of that matters now because it really was the perfect party to celebrate my baby boy turning 1!

Picking The Party Venue
Our daughter Taylor had just turned 4 and I had yet to have a single birthday party at our house. Years 1 and 2, we lived in a smaller townhouse so it really wasn’t feasible with the guest list. Year 3 I was pregnant and considered having it at our new home but decided against that. Year 4 I ended up having at a trampoline park because 6 weeks later I was throwing a giant first birthday party for Alex at home for the first time!
I was excited to have it at our house but also kind of nervous given the amount of people. I gambled on having a fairly nice day in Maryland in late February and the weather did not disappoint!
We were able to have the screen door open, the bouncy house outside & a true indoor/outdoor event!
We used our dining room as the main hub for food, desserts and favors. This was right before we starting our big dining room makeover which you can read about here!
Wild One Birthday Theme Decorations
I found lots of great Wild One themed party items on Amazon & Etsy that I purchased for the big day! I simply searched Wild One Themed Party.
The week leading up to the party, I started to play around with the items to see where everything would go but didn’t set anything up until the day before!
Here is another Wild One birthday party idea – you can stop Wild One room decor. I found this sign which worked perfectly from Hobby Lobby!
The ivy ended up being a big hit but I have to warn you, the ivy had some really bad stale plastic smell to it. Luckily I opened it a few days prior and left it in the garage to “air it out” and it was OK the day of! It really added a nice touch to the Wild One theme!! Worth it!
I got lots of balloons for the big day! I picked them up the morning of but ordered them the day before. I got the gold star balloons for $1 each at the dollar tree! The rest of the balloons I got at Party City. Party City has the best selection of balloons!
Complete the look by grabbing these Wild One themed party paper & cutlery sets!
Make your own decorations with photos of your baby throughout the first year!
Planning the Menu
I think I am super Mom and can do it all so I pretty much planned to do all the food myself – phew. I did pick things that could be made the day or night before and/or slow cook in a crock post but STILL. I was getting everything ready all the way up until party time – typical!
I went to another first birthday party in early February and got the idea for pulled chicken. It was so good and seemed easy so I got the recipe from my friend!
There were a ton of kids coming so I kept it simple with chicken nuggets, tots & macaroni & cheese but the adults didn’t mind those either!
I had a little dessert buffet with a variety of finger desserts and a cake for the birthday boy! I found THE perfect cake topper on Amazon!
Also, the server worked out perfectly with the smash cake on the top and the mini cupcakes on the bottom.
My Mom and I typically make all the desserts but this time, I did store bought trying to save myself some time! We had SO much left over…
Wild One Party Invitations
We didn’t actually send out invitations but now I wish we did because these are just so stinking cute!
Wild One Birthday Theme Favors
In my Pinterest inspiration board, you can see where I got this idea! Someone actually screenshotted the idea from an Instagram post. I created my very own template for these favor tags and printed them at home on white cardstock. I did order little gold crowns to add to them but late the night before realized that they were the wrong size so we went without.
I found the animal crackers and clear/gold bags both at Walmart. Easy peasy party favors!
I also love these animal ear headbands as a simple Wild One party favor idea.

Wild One First Birthday Theme Photo Shoot
I wanted to get photos done close to Alex’s birthday but I new the day of would be too much so I scheduled them for the day after. I was so busy planning the party that I really didn’t plan the photo shoot! I had nothing picked out for outfits or props!
Here is a cute Wild One Themed outfit I found!
The photo shoot was planned for our house which is the first time I’ve done that except for newborn photo shoots.
The morning after the party, I went back to Pinterest and got some ideas! See my Pinterest inspiration board here.
Luckily, I was able to reuse all the Wild One party decor and the pictures turned out so beautifully!!
I grabbed one shirt out of a gift bag for the birthday boy! Perfect!
I did buy a 2nd smash cake for the photo shoot!
