Today I’m excited to share my new, affordable kitchen pendant lighting and quality cabinet kitchen hardware update!
For those of you that are new here, my husband and I bought 3 acres of property that we subdvided. We kept half and sold the other half. We custom built our dream home and have been adding features and continuing to customize ever since we moved in!

When we were building, I was busy pinning lots of ideas of kitchens with white cabinets & white countertops. Our cabinets are a traditional shaker style dove white by Kraftmaid. We have the same cabinets in our master bath actually! Even with two young kids we are able to keep the white cabinets clean! I love a clean, simplistic kitchen but my kitchen has always felt very cold and bland to me.
Over the past two years, we added bar stools, a neutral natural stone backsplash, under cabinet lighting, some décor, and a rug but still it feels totally bland and blah!! Don’t get me wrong all the finishes are gorgeous but it still needed some changes.
Old Kitchen Pendant Lighting & Cabinet hardware
Our old kitchen pendants were clear and very plain. I still think they are beautiful pendants but I really wanted to try something new! You can see these pendants plus all the lighting in our home on my home lighting page here.
The original hardware that we choose for our kitchen is really nice but wasn’t accenting the white cabinets enough.
shopping with build
I decided that I wanted to change it up and of course went to one of my favorite retailers, Build.com. During our custom home build process, we got anything we could from Build.com. Their vast section of products, their prices and customer service were everything we could have dreamed of.
Building a house is actually not an easy process but I must say that Build’s organized website with spec sheets, pictures, reviews and customer service really helped. Our current kitchen lighting, hardware, sinks, & faucets as well as many other products that are from Build.
I first started by shopping for my new pendant lighting! I was so surprised by how many brands and options of pendants there were on Build’s site. My husband and I can sometimes have different taste but with so many options, we found lots of pendants that we both liked.
New Kitchen Pendant Lighting
I chose these antique bronze pendants from Bellevue. They were reasonably priced and had the aesthetic I was going for. They are also almost two times the size of our current pendants. The wider pendants are in style actually. These pendants also come in 3 other colors – brushed nickel, polished nickel and natural brass. I love that they hang from a solid rod vs a wire or chain. I think they are a high quality for a great price!
New Cabinet HArdware
Next, I started shopping for hardware. I went with Top Knobs so that the measurements from the old to new hardware were exactly the same. There were tons of options of hardware which made it a hard choice. At first, I thought I wanted a matte black but once I picked the oil rubbed bronze pendants, I decided I didn’t want the space to be too black & white. We chose hardware that was a little sleeker to dress up the space.
I found a gorgeous polished nickel hardware from the Linwood collection! This line comes in ash gray, brushed satin nickel, flat black, honey bronze, polished chrome, and polished nickel. Similar finishes are available for the knobs.
I ordered the products late on a Wednesday and all products were delivered on Friday/Saturday! I was shocked at how fast everything arrived!
When the pendants came and we opened them up, they were even more beautiful in person. They were very easy to install.
The color of the pendants actually compliments the oven doors and TV across the way in our open concept floor plan. Probably the best part was when we turned them on. With the type of Edison style light bulb we had in our old pendants, the reflection off the light was a beautiful bronze/gold color and was absolutely GORGEOUS!
When we installed the hardware, I could tell that it made an immediate difference in the kitchen vibe! This hardware was very high quality. The polished nickel does show more finger prints but it’s worth the more frequent wipe down to have the brighter look!
I added a few other things to really top this space off and you can see below.
I am so excited about changing the vibe in my kitchen! It starts with the basic foundational building blocks like lighting and hardware. These two products completely transformed this room! Do you have any idea how much time I spend in the kitchen?! If you are building, renovating or refreshing, Build.com has all the products you need to design your project!
