So I did a thing on a whim and decided to sign up for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge! This is my very first One Room Challenge and this is technically week 2!!
Update: 09-2020 – I totally failed the One Room Challenge!
It turned out to be the One Room Failure for a lot of reasons called life. But in all seriousness, we completed our dining room woodworking project as a lot of other unforeseen events happen too.
Anyway, I also changed my furniture and feature wall decisions about 10x too. That’s totally normal right?
But you can check out my most recent master bedroom progress here.

What is the One Room Challenge?
If you haven’t heard of the One Room Challenge before, it’s a biannual event for bloggers and Instagram influencers to completely makeover a space over an eight week time period. It’s sponsored by Better Home and Gardens with a number of other sponsors as well! I have joined as a guest participant. Every Thursday, I will share my ideas and progress so please make sure to subscribe for my weekly email updates!
If you are new to my blog, my husband and I designed and built our Custom dream home on a property that we developed which backs up to a state park! My husband Kris is very handy and we have been adding features and continuing to customize our home!
Which Room Did I Pick?
I have always wanted to have a beautiful master bedroom but after two years of living in our dream home, I still don’t have actual bed (just the mattress and frame). I got rid of our old headboard when we moved thinking that I would get a new one right away but still have not! We have no curtains (just blinds), no pretty décor, and no rug (p.s. I love rug layering!). We are still using the bedroom set that I bought when I was 22! I am sooo tired of that bedding, those pillows, no headboard! I have also had those lamps since I was 22. It’s all got to go! It’s time for an upgrade but all our other projects keep taking priority.
Well not anymore with the One Room Challenge! I’m exciting to be doing this along with a group of other designers & bloggers! Its just what I need to see this project through.
Our master suite is actually 4 different spaces! Given this is a one room challenge, I’ll be focused on the main master suite.
The master bathroom is already designed and decorated! The office, well I quasi finished this space as well but still have a long way to go – maybe next One Room Challenge? See pictures of the master bathroom, master closet and master office below.
My Goals For This Transformation:
- I want it to be beautiful – I want it to feel like I am at a spa hotel every single day!
- I need it to be functional and organized. This is going to require some decluttering!
- Design on a budget – I want to find great, quality products, but I don’t want top end of the range products. I like to find great deals!
One thing that is really important to me is the feature wall behind the bed. This is the first thing you see when you walk into the room. I have all kinds of ideas for that wall – wallpaper, wood, etc!!
Currently, our master suite has a gorgeous tray ceiling. I would love a chandelier but my husband and I also enjoy moving air with the ceiling fan so I may check out some fandeliers! I do like our current fan so I would just move that to another room.
Pinterest Inspiration for this space
First Inspiration Source
This gorgeous master suite is from Life on Cedar Lane. I love every aspect of the furniture and decor here. I plan to add curtains, a seating area at the end of the bed, wall art above the bed and a new rug! I’m loving the neutrals here with the pops of blue. Andrea’s entire home is absolutely stunning!

This swoonworthy master suite is from The Greenspring Home who also happens to be my sister & bestie! I love her furniture, the bedding and that feature wall! She also has that fabulous vaulted ceiling which really makes this room stand out. So much inspiration from her gorgeous home.

I love all the space in the master closet as well as the master bathroom. The rooms invite you to come in because they are well-organized, functional and decorated nicely. I am anxious to see what you are going to do with the master bedroom!
