Everyone has that one closet in their home where they “stuff” things.

It’s almost like a junk drawer but instead it’s a junk closet!

For us, ever since we moved into our new home, our foyer coat closet was our junk closet.

Our home has everything you would want in a foyer.

  • Open concept two story foyer
  • Double front doors with all windows (we live in a private lot)
  • Grand staircase
  • A simple, small coat closet

But the coat closet had zero coats in it and was completely unusable after living in our home for 3 years!

Then for my daughter’s 6th birthday party in January, we were having an at home party.

Only problem was that they were calling for a high of 26 degrees Fahrenheit.

But where would I keep the coats for all of my guests?!

That’s when I finally decided that it was time for a makeover!

Our entryway is on the smaller size measuring 3′ 7″ by 9′ tall.

Like any good organization project should begin, I started by clearing out this coat closet.

I separated everything into the following categories:

  • Items to go back into the newly organized coat closet
  • Things to get rid of
  • Items to relocate elsewhere

You will notice that we have a nice wooden shelf with a hanging rod in our hallway closet.

When we moved in, we decided not to do ANY wire shelving anywhere.

We had wire shelving in our previous home which was OK but wire shelving is not as functional as wood shelving.

We painted our wood shelving with Sherwin Williams Duration plain white paint which has been very “durable” in our closets – no pun intended!

My main idea for this entryway coat closet was to simply hang up guests coats.

Secondary to that, I love the utility and the location of this closet right by the front door so I also wanted to add a storage solution in here for some other things too.

I have cubbies at the bottom of another closet and thought that would be the perfect solution in my entryway closet as well!

I used 2 fabric organization cubes that I already have and got 2 more for a total of 4.

In my coat closet cube organizer, I’m organizing some of my overflow everyday home décor items that I frequently swap out but you could store anything in these oversized cubes!!

They hold a ton of stuff.

I put some of the larger items on the wooden shelf at the top of the closet which is about 2 ft tall.

And even sat a few of the home decor items on top of the cube organizer.

So this is actually a nursery closet.

We used this same Closetmaid tower system in our nursery closet and in a toddler closet as well.

I highly recommend this closet organizer for any closet.

But I also think it would be fantastic in a coat closet.

In fact, I may add this to our mudroom closet because I currently use a fabric organizer that hangs from the rod but it’s not the greatest.

The tower is really easy to put together and add to a coat closet!

What is the Closet Next To The Front Door Called?

It’s called a foyer closet, coat closet, hallway closet or entryway closet.

These terms are often used interchangeably.

What Do You Do With An Entryway Closet?

Current favorite kitchen organization project? Spice jars with labels! Sharing how you can get your spices organized quickly & easily!

I almost didn’t do this spice organization project because wasn’t sure if it would be worth it but I promise you it is!!

This is one of my favorite kitchen organization projects to date with over 1M video views on social media!

I am very passionate about an organized home especially in my kitchen.

How Do I organize My Spice Jars?

This is a great question!

Before my kitchen spice reorganization project, I stored all of my spices vertically in my top pantry drawer with no organizer whatsoever.

I also have a built in spice cabinet which you can see in my 20+ kitchen organization tips post.

That spice cabinet is not nearly big enough to hold all of my kitchen spices so I mainly keep the everyday go to spices there as well as oils, vinegars etc.

Personally, I’ve been alphabetizing my spices for years. I highly recommend it.

It’s easy to do, easy to maintain and makes it SUPER easy to find spices when you are looking for one.

Nothing worse than not being able to find a spice when you are in the middle of a recipe or buying another one and ending up with 3 of the same spice!

Spice Jars With Labels

I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect glass spice jars with labels.

Here was my wish list:

  • 4 oz glass spice jars with lids
  • Clean, waterproof white spice bottle labels
  • Bulk spice jars

This project was so satisfying to get rid of all my mismatched junkie plastic spice bottles and replace them with matching glass bottles.

Here is a step by step walkthrough of how I created this beautiful drawer of spice jars with labels.

I will also include links to all of the products that I used as well.

My drawer is 18 5/8″ x 19 1/4″ and comfortably holds 40 spices – 10 on each row.

Glass Jars With Labels

After my box of 48 glass spice jars arrived, I separated the glass spice jars from the lids and put them all into the sink with HOT soapy water to clean them.

Then I pulled all of my old spices out of the cabinet and alphabetized them on my counter and counted them to ensure I had gotten enough glass spice jars.

If I found that I had two of a spice, I would marry them together into one container.

The bulk spice jar kit that I got actually came with a nifty collapsible spice funnel which made it super easy to empty my old spice bottles into the new ones.

Spice Labels For Jars

The spice jars that I purchased actually came with black round spice labels which I ended up tossing and instead I purchased some white spice bottle labels.

For me, I just felt like the white was cleaner and matched my all white kitchen.

I also love the modern font on these labels!

The labels were really easy to put on.

They are also water resistant and they are easy to keep clean.

Plus they look amazing!

The fine line minimalist labels come with 120 of the most common kitchen labels.

Bonus: This label set also comes in gold font color.

They also have bathroom labels, laundry room labels and more!!

What if you have a spice that they don’t make a label for?

That was not the case for me but in any event you do have a super rare spice, the labels have some blank and miscellaneous ones as well.

How do you know when the spices expire?

I recommend writing the date on a sticker on the bottom or write it with a dry erase marker!

Spice Drawer Organizer

Now that you have these beautiful matching & alphabetized spice jars, it’s time to showcase them.

It reminds me a of a fancy jewelry drawer where you showcase your jewelry pieces.

There are tiers of shelves to accomplish this professional, magazine style kitchen look.

All drawers are not created equally which is why I tried a few different expandable spice drawer organizer options.

To be honest, these were great.

But in walks my very talented wood working husband who says to me, you know I can build you that spice drawer organizer as a custom spice rack?

Are Trundle Beds Comfortable For Adults?

Yes and no. First, it will depend if it is a twin size trundle bed or a full size trundle bed. Generally, one adult can sleep on a twin size trundle bed. The bigger the audit, the less comfortable the twin sized trundle will be. A full size trundle bed is also probably only comfortable for one adult but if it is just for a night, I think two adults could manage.

Do Trundle Beds Work On Carpet?

Absolutely trundle beds work on carpet. I know from experience. In fact, in my daughter’s room, her trundle bed goes partially over her carpet and tufted wool area rug as well.

Are you considering purchasing a Nugget Couch? I was in your exact position just 6 months ago.

I’ll share our families honest review, what we love and what we don’t love + things I wish I knew before buying.

Our Family’s Nugget Couch Review

I first learned about the Nugget couch from seeing cute photos of them all over Instagram.

When it came time to redesign our Playroom, naturally I put the Nugget couch on my list.

Then, when I went to go actually purchase it, I saw that the cost STARTS at $229 (up to $259) AND that the couch was on back order for 4-6 weeks. I’m generally an instant gratification type of person so this plus the price is what caused me to pause.  

Is the Nugget Couch Worth The Money?

First, I pulsed some of my Mom friends to see if they had it and what their thoughts were. To my surprise, unanimously, they all said it was worth the money. When I asked why, they said that their kids LOVE their Nugget couch.

Most had one for a playroom, basement, bedroom or even family room if they had the space.

I also know lots of friends that have more than one Nugget which means they spent $229 times X.

Does The Nugget Couche Ever Go On Sale?

Now I’m a coupon and bargain shopper so once my Mom friends told me this was a worthwhile investment, I decided to google and look for coupon codes. Nope – nothing!

I also learned that the Nugget couches don’t go on sale – likely due to the demand!

I looked into some Nugget couch alternatives (more on that below) and ultimately decided to go with the Nugget because of my friends recommendations who actually had the Nugget couch.

Honest Opinion of our Nugget Couch

So I can truthfully tell you that while it seems like a lot for 4 pieces of foam – it is a worthwhile investment and it is not cheaply made.

  • The foam itelf is CertiPUR-US certfied
  • The fabric is a double brushed microsuede. Ours has held but really well and trust me, my kids beat this thing and test it!
  • It is light enough that the kids can pick up the pieces themselves and move them all around

My five and two year old play with and on their Nugget couch all the time! See why they love this couch below in their own words. In our family’s opinion, ages 1-7 is the perfect Nugget couch age range but older and younger kids would definitely make good use of it too!

Sometimes it is used as an actual couch, or a table, as a fort, as a slide, as a wall, as a trampoline – the options are literally endless!

We have the classic Harbor color Nugget couch. Truthfully, I went with this color not because it was a classic but because it was a neutral and dark enough to hide all the stains! Let’s be real for a minute – this is a kids couch so it is destined for stains. And while you can take the covers off and wash them, who wants to do that for every little thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the other colors so if you can keep the markers, goldfish and slobber off of it, you will probably be fine!

Our Nugget couch is in our playroom. Most of the time, it is not in sofa formation which is great because it means that they are playing with it and more importantly, it is keeping them entertained!

I love that this “toy” does not involve a tablet or TV. In fact, a lot of people think that the Nugget couch is a Montessori toy.

I can honestly say that it truly does evoke my kids imaginative side.

Thoughts From Each Family Member

What Daddy likes – Daddy likes that it keeps the kids quiet and entertained for awile.

What Mommy likes – Mommy likes that this is a multifunctional piece that doubles as a seating area plus an imaginative toy!

What our five year old likes – she says she likes that it can be a slide and that it is a couch she is allowed to jump on

What our two year old likes – he likes to build forts. He is currently obsessed with the nugget couch at his age. It’s a great toddler entertainment toy. He is also all boy and loves to be rough on it – luckily it is very sturdy and solid!

How Our Nugget Couch Arrived

The picture below is how it look as soon as I removed it from the box. The one key thing that they do say is to open it AS SOON AS YOU GET IT… I of course didn’t but only let it sit in the box for maybe 5 days.

Definitely was worried when it came out of the box looking like this!

I have gotten a number of foam mattresses in a box and feel like they didn’t look like this – especially was worried about the pillows and the wrinkles on the fabric.

Looking back, it makes sense that the micro suede fabric get’s wrinkled but once the foam had a few days to expand, it looked GREAT!

So don’t panic when you take it out of the box, it will be OK!

The Nugget website does say that it takes 1-2 weeks to fully fluff!

What We Love

  • Of course, we love that it is multifunctional – couch, table, fort, slide, etc.
  • There is no weight limit – my husband sits on it and he is 250 LBS
  • The covers are easy to take off and put back on
  • I love the classic Harbor because it’s neutral and I don’t have to worry about little stains here and there

What We Don’t Love

Not too much to say here other than I wish it were cheaper because I would love to get another!

Are Nugget Couches Comfortable?

The couch itself is very comfortable to sit on for both adults and kids. I have laid on it before and scrolled my phone and found it pretty nice!

The pillows are a little awkwardly shaped so depending on how they are positioned, they made or may not be comfortable.

Kids definitely love to lay, read and play on the Nugget sofa.

Can You Sleep On A Nugget Couch?

No joke, my husband did actually sleep on this one night and it was NOT comfortable to sleep on as an adult.

I’m sure a kid could sleep on it just fine but we have not tried it.

What Age For Nugget Couch?

This is just my personal opinion but I believe ages 2-6 get the MOST use out of the Nugget couch but you could definitely find use for it at all ages.

Ok I really want this bestselling wood coastal console for our guest bedroom! My sister has it and it’s amazingly beautiful.

It’s very simple and geometric and I just love the beautiful wood tone! It is very sturdy – made of solid pine wood!

It has a hand-applied stained finish and comes with adjustable levelers that help with stability on different uneven surfaces.

It’s a great size for any space at 52″ wide and 15″ deep.
