So you’re looking for some cute décor for your little one’s room?

I was in your shoes not long ago! I’m a blessed Mama of a little girl & little boy!

Note: the DIY wall art below was for my daughter’s room BUT you can actually customize these to be for a girl, boy or completely neutral! I’ll share how below!

      Free Printable Nursery Art

I made this Cute as a Button wall art for my daughter’s nursery. It was so FUN & SIMPLE!

      free printable nursery art

Round up the supplies – I’ve linked supply options as ideas below. You can use whatever on hand supplies you already have or shop these supplies online or at your local store.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you click through a link and make a purchase, it will earn me a small commission, at no additional cost to you! See our disclaimer for details.

      Step 1 – Create!

I used Microsoft Word and created the cute little cross stitch boarder for the outside of the print.

To create a border you will want to go to the ribbon within Microsoft word and go to the design tab. All the way to the right on the design tab, you will find the page border function where there are a number of different border options to choose from.

Microsoft Word will typically default to an 8×10 size. If you would like a different size, go to layout and then size and select your size. You can go bigger or smaller!

Next, I needed a super cute font! This font is called Pretty Girls Script. See I how downloaded this super cute font here!

Now my example is pink with a girly font, but you can easily make this template in any color with any font!

      Step 2 – Save & Print!

You will want to print on a nice cardstock.

Here is my favorite heavy duty cardstock option from Michaels.

You can get card stock almost anywhere!

I chose white but you can choose any color or pattern as well.

Step 3 – Add some super cute Buttons!

I mixed and matched the shades and sizes of the buttons which worked out beautifully!

Tip: You don’t want the buttons to be too thick because then your art won’t fit inside the frame.

      Different Button Options:

      • Pastel Buttons
      • Pink Buttons
      • More Pink Buttons
      • Blush Buttons
      • Pink Ombre Buttons
      • Blue Ombre Buttons
      • Purple Buttons
      • More Pastel Buttons

I first placed all the buttons to make sure I liked the layout BEFORE gluing them on the cardstock.

I love to use the little round glue stickys – I use them for all of my crafts but if you try to take them off, they mess up the paper pretty badly.

Luckily, you can just print another but save yourself the frustration and test the layout first.

      Step 4 – Frame & Hang!

I used pretty white frame from Michael’s but I also think a gold or wood frame would look great as well!

As I mentioned above, you don’t want the buttons to be too thick because then they won’t fit inside the frame.

My frame was a little hard to fasten shut but not too bad.

Grab my free printable for this wall art in gray, blue, pink, yellow, green and neutral tan! Or create one yourself and don’t forget to send me a picture of your finished work of art!

      DIY Nursery Wall Art

Next, I made this Heart Collage Wall Art for my daughter’s nursery. It was also very SIMPLE!

      Related: Toddler Girls Bedroom

Round up the supplies – I’ve linked supply options as ideas below.

You can use whatever on hand supplies you already have or shop these supplies online or at your local store.

Step 1 – Punch out your shapes!

      You’ll need 15 for an 8 x 10.

My daughter’s nursery was themed pink & gray so I bought some pink and gray scrapbook paper but I also used some of the paper envelopes from my baby shower cards!

Side note: these are great to keep on hand for any little crafts that pop up!

      I bought a 2” heart paper punch.

      Super easy to use.

They come in lots of other shapes too!

You’ll notice that I did mix of 4 different color hearts in my collage. The options are endless!

Step 2 – Lay Out the Collage

Next, you need to get your card stock out again.

You can use any color or pattern!

You’ll also want to grab a ruler so that you can lay out your hearts and make sure everything is evenly spaced!

Measuring is key here! If you are doing multiple different colors in your collage, you will want to make sure you like the layout first.

Do a test run with the layout and then mark where each heart will be placed with a pencil.

Step 3 – Glue Your Shapes On

Use Glue Dots (or any other glue product) and put the collage together!

      Step 4 – Frame & Hang

I used white frame from Michael’s below but I also think a gold frame would be cute!

      There you go!

Now you too can make special, personalize DIY wall art for that little bundle of joy!

I still have my wall art though I’ve repurposed the frames and put them into a binder with page protectors – along with some of Taylor’s own art and she LOVES the art made for her by her Mommy!

These also make GREAT gift ideas – as long as you know what the theme of the baby nursery is!

Please send me a note and let me know if you try these or some other variation inspired by these.

I would love to see a photo of the finished product!

I also wanted to share with you all another super easy & fun way to use different fonts.

I have been using Canva on both my PC and the app and it’s absolutely amazing!

      I can create absolutely anything!

I love it and use it every day! If you aren’t using Canva, I highly recommend it!

Staging A House On A Budget

      Decor· DIY

So you want to sell your house? This can be a very overwhelming and stressful process. I’ve created this post with 10 simple, easy tips for staging a house on a budget!

One of the most important aspects of selling your home is home staging!

staging a house on a budget

I am also including a FREE Printable home staging checklist! See below!

      Home Staging

The market is HOT and you want your home to stand out. I’ve been there a few times and I remember the process well.

I was studying the market, the area, the prices, the competition –  absolutely obsessing over everything! What I can say is that is very helpful for the you as the seller to be very knowledgeable about the market.

Almost equally important and what I believe to this day sold my most recent home was how it was staged!

      Staging your home to sell

The person that bought our first home fell in love with the listing and photos before she ever even set foot into the house!

I worked day and night to stage our house – and at the end of it, it was so nice, I had to ask myself – why am I leaving this house?

Staging your home does not need to break the bank. I was all about staging a house on a budget!

      Staging interior design

Most realtors today offer some sort of staging consultation. I have even heard of some realtors that provide furniture items for staging purposes so if you aren’t already working with a realtor, this is definitely something to consider as part of your interview process!

As far as staging your home goes… if you read nothing else, one key to selling is killing it on the home décor front!

I’ll further expand and tell you everything you need to know

Below are 10 tips broken into 3 categories from my own personal experience.

Staging a House On a Budget

      Home Staging tips

In addition to my tips, I’ve linked many of the budget friendly products in my own home for you to use for your own home staging!

      Purge & Pack

Before you do any staging, if you are like me, you will need to do what I call purge and pack.

Purge – get rid of stuff, as painful as moving is, it’s the one time that you realize the things you don’t need and can get rid of them. Pack – you want to make your house feel open and roomy so you likely will need to pack some of the clothes in your closet, certain items that make a room feel smaller and organize your cabinets – especially in the kitchen. People love to open kitchen cabinets.

I must admit that once I had done all of this, I had a desire to live like this all the time, stuff can be DRAINING!

From that point, on I have had a burning desire to create a minimalist home – see all my minimalistic tips for how you can do this too!

      Staging Home Decor

This tip is actually a multi step tip and there are 7 key things to remember here. Some room specific that will make a difference in your staging!

      • They say to remove all family/personal photos so that potential buyers can envision themselves living in your home
      • Try to use neutral décor that isn’t too specific to a certain style. In general, use lamps to add height to console tables, dressers and desks.

      Living Room Staging
      • Stage your side tables, ottomans and console tables with framed art, home décor items, lamps, etc.
      • Add a few patterned throw pillows to your couch and give it a magazine type look
      • If you have kids like me, try to leave just a few toys out and put the rest out of sight
      living room staging
      Staging A Kitchen
      • Clear the counters, cabinet/refrigerator tops, magnets etc.
      • Stage with decorative accessories adding interest and pops of color. You can use fancy  glass bottled water for example.
      • Place flowers in the center of the table
      • Place a bowl of lemons in the center of an island if you have one
      • Stage the breakfast bar if you have one with table settings

      Bedroom Staging
      • Place framed art or a mirror over dresser & bed
      • Stage dresser with a faux plant and neutral décor
      • Stage bed with throw pillows and blanket on the end of the bed

      Bathroom Staging
      • Remove all rugs and items on the floor.
      • Clear all items from vanity, toilet top, tub surround and shower.
      • Stowe everything you use daily in a closed cabinet.
      • Stage with white towels and a faux floral on the counter top.
      bathroom staging
      Exterior
      • Remove your window screens (I have my front window screens removed in my current home)
      • Make sure your flower beds are weeded and mulched
      • Stage with a welcome mat, flower pots and a decorative wreath

      3rd – CLEAN!

Who doesn’t love a clean home? This is a lot of work but you need to clean often. This includes putting everything away! You need to vacuum, wipe down counters, dust, make sure the dishes are done, make the bed – you get the gist. You can also light a candle before a showing as well to make your home extra nice smelling! Other things you may need to consider are deep cleaning carpeting as needed and using a magic eraser to remove scuffs on walls/doors.

      Benefits of home staging

Phew! That was a lot, I’m tired… staging a house is a lot of work but it is necessary and will pay off in getting you top dollar for your home! Also, everything you are doing is actually helping you prepare for the big moving day too!

For more on the benefits of home staging, check out this post by The Group Inc.

      Home staging checklist

As promised, here is my free printable checklist for you to have to reference as you stage your house!

I’d love to hear which part of the home sale process you are in, how staging/selling is going and the good news once you successfully stage and sell your home!

      DIY Mudroom {Create Your Dream Custom Mudroom}

      Design· DIY

So after 2 years of waiting – I’m happy to be revealing our DIY mudroom!

Tired of your current “drop zone”?

For us, it was the kitchen island. We have a beautiful kitchen but the island was always covered in stuff!

Our building plans had an empty 12 x 12 room and had always planned to build a custom mudroom later on.

Features of our DIY Mudroom include:

      • Custom Built Mudroom Cubbies
      • L Shaped Bench Seat
      • Shiplap Feature Wall

      DIY Mudroom

Whether you have a dedicated mudroom in your home or not – this post is for you!

My husband and I dreamed of having this space to hang our “stuff” before we even moved into our home!

You can insert a mudroom storage system like this pretty much anywhere you have space, a hallway, garage, entryway… I promise, you’ll be glad you did!

First and foremost, I must give immense credit to the “man behind the curtain”, my extremely talented and super handy hubby who made this project come to life!

      Mudroom Lay Out Ideas

Our mudroom is right off of our 2 car garage. Our architects originally proposed this space a little differently but it was the first time I had heard of – “the drop zone”.

      mudroom plans
      Original Floor Plan

I loved the concept but I’m all about the functional & organized so we made a few changes during the build process. I needed a functional bathroom. I’m so glad we added this – it is probably the most used bathroom in the house!

      Mudroom Storage

Right off the garage when you come in and right next to the kitchen where we spend a ton of time.

I still needed to fit a decent sized closet – this is where we keep the vacuum, mop, extra batteries, extra light bulbs, umbrellas, and allll the coats.

I seriously don’t know what we would do without the closet – I use it for so many things! There was also a door between the kitchen and the mudroom in the original plans.

I definitely wanted the open concept so I asked our builder to delete the door and saved myself about $100 bucks in the process!

Mudroom storage was a very important aspect or me. Between the closet and the built-in cubbies, I feel like we have the perfect amount of storage space!

      Mudroom Design

Before we even moved in, we had measured and planned the mudroom lockers and custom mudroom bench. It was the perfect add to round out the room!

We picked the flooring out as we were building. I love this tile & highly recommend!

      Cubbies for Mudroom

When we decided we were ready to do the project, there were more things to design then I expected.

Mudroom cubbies are also sometimes referred to as mudroom storage lockers – I’m not sure which one is right so I use them pretty interchangeably.

One of the first key mudroom design decisions was what type of wood to use for the mudroom cubbies.

We researched and talked to some friends who had done similar wood built in projects.

At the end of all that, we decided to go with birch plywood for the mudroom lockers. We like to place our Home Depot orders online & pick up in store!

      Mudroom Storage Lockers

There were some other decisions like – how tall wide and deep did we want to make the mudroom cubbies, how big do you want the opening for the baskets?

      locker for mudroom

Related: Ideas For Your Entryway Shoe Storage

      Custom Mudroom Bench

The more difficult decision was what type to wood to use for the L shaped entry bench.

I was on the fence about the bench seat – stained wood or painted ?? There are so many gorgeous pictures of both online – eeek what to decide!

Side note – I can be very indecisive – any one else? Somehow I have learned to be able to tell myself, make a decision and go with it when the rubber meets the road.

So thinking about it from a functional standpoint, having two young kids, I decided to go with stain to hide the dirt, the mud, the grime that will inevitably happen – after all it is a mudroom!

We ended up going with butcher block for the wood mudroom bench. It’s not available in store but you can easily pre-order online and do store pick up.

There were some other decisions like what’s the height/depth of the bench seat and how to attach the bench to the bottom cubbies. Decisions, decisions!

      Mudroom Cubbie Paint

Once we got that all squared away, it was time to decide on the paint. We painted our entire home in Sherwin Williams and this project would be no different.

I went to my local store and discussed with the gentleman working that day. He gave me the run down on paint options as follows:

      • Emerald Eurathane – Best durability. pros. Hardens similar to oil paint. Easy to work with. Cons. Does take 2 weeks to cure and should not be below 50 degrees while drying.  Could be overkill for our project. Most expensive option.
      • All Surface Enamel – easier to work with than pro classic. Comes in satin or high gloss.
      • Pro Classic – Latex paint. Pros – hardens similar to oil paint
      • Other options included porch or floor enamel.

I was surprised by all the various choices. After weighing the pros and cons, we decided to go with the All Surface Enamel because of the faster cure time.

      Mudroom Furniture

We did this project in the winter so we painted in the garage and used a propane heater to help the paint dry faster. We used the Graco air assisted Paint Sprayer which made the job a breeze!

First we applied just a basic multipurpose latex primer. One coat of that. Then we applied two coats of the All Surface Enamel.

The paint was very easy to use and hardened very nicely! It gives us that professional cabinet looking finish!

      Mudroom Built Ins

      DIY Mudroom Bench

      Build Mudroom Bench

Next, we chose the stain for our custom mudroom bench and can I just say that stains really don’t look like they do on the picture on the can?

You really have to try them out, look at them in different types of lighting and see it with the other finishes in the room. This stain is by Varthane from Home Depot in the Jacobean color.

We also used a stain polyurethane to protect it. The satin is for a matte look vs glossy.

Don’t miss where I am sharing all my lessons learned about Polyeurathane in my kitchen table refinishing post.

      DIY Mudroom Paint Process

As you can see from the photos, this was very much a step by step process!

Essentially you build out and place the entire thing BEFORE you paint.

Painting is also a multi-part process. Ever heard the phrase, watching paint dry?

It was kind of cool though to see how it all came together!

      DIY Shiplap Wall

If you are standing in the kitchen like in this view, you see the bench seat and the shiplap wall. Shiplap was not a part of the pre build plan at all but once I was in the house and I saw how much that wall is in sight, I thought it would be a perfect way to make this room stand out. Such a pretty view that’s visible even from the other side of the house!

      Ideas for Mudroom Decor

      Mudroom Cubbie Hooks

And now for the oh so important finishing touches!

Starting with hooks for the cubbies. I looked a few different places but I wanted simple and I also love the black and white.

Lucky for me, I found the perfect hooks at Wayfair and I put two in each cubbie.

      Mudroom Cubbie Baskets

This took way longer than I expected but I was looking for a certain size so that added to the challenge.

I probably checked about 10 different stores websites to find the perfect baskets.

Across the top, believe it or not, I found the perfect baskets at Walmart. These are by a brand called Homezone and were $12.97 each!!

Since I took these photos, I also found baskets for the bottom. These baskets are also from Walmart and were $9.96!! I decided to buy double for that price and keep the others in case I ever need to replace. They are also collapsible!

      Mudroom Wall Decor

Next up, I also needed a nice statement piece for the shiplap wall!

After searching a ton of different stores, I found this very reasonably priced 26″ round clock from Target.

I decided to add a clock to this feature wall because believe it or not, none of my appliances have a built in clock that stays on so I can easily look over and see what time it is!

      Mudroom Throw Pillows

I’m personally loving the addition of throw pillows in my mudroom! I’ve styled pillows in the mudroom cubbies and a lumbar pillow for my mudroom bench seat. Here are some of my favorite picks!

Best Ideas For A Baby Nursery On A Budget

      Decor

Today I am sharing a the best ideas for a baby nursery on a budget!

I personally love to design nursery’s because I know first hand how special of a place it is for both Baby and Mom!

My goal for this nursery was for the space to be cute, functional & affordable!

As soon as I found out I was having a boy, I immediately went to Pinterest, of course, for some inspiration!

Here is a little design board of my neutral baby nursery inspiration that I found while browsing Hobby Lobby..

      Neutral baby nursery design board

      Gender neutral nursery

      BUDGET Friendly baby Nursery Furniture

Knowing that I was planning to reuse the furniture from my daughter’s nursery.

I wanted to find something that would easily fit in with that style. I also like simple but functional.

      baby nursery theme

I fell in love with the stars, moons and clouds nursery theme from both Pinterest and from shopping at Hobby Lobby.

It was the perfect gender neutral nursery theme. Hobby Lobby had so many cute and inexpensive pieces for me to make this room come together in a snap.

My husband on the other hand was complaining about how many things I had for him to hang on the wall!

The crib wall is sort of tucked in and fits perfectly on a wall adjacent to the closet.

I had heard not to put shelving and/or other heavy things over top of the crib (in case they fall) so I was super excited when I saw this perfect garland and lightweight framed art.

      baby Nursery Textiles

The cute star patterned sheet is organic and very soft.

The curtains are room darkening curtains which are a MUST in the baby nursery so that they a. don’t wake up when the sun comes up and b. can take naps during the day.

      Budget baby nursery gliders

Our glider is very comfortable and has a very functional ottoman complete with a pull out foot rest which is really comfortable for feeding and rocking your baby – I highly recommend it.

In this space I really needed an extra pop of blue to tie in with the curtains. In this shot you can also see the rug and star accent rugs which tie the room all together and make it feel extra cozy with the faux fur.

The lamp was a reuse from my daughter’s nursery but we used it literally every day!

We also installed a dimmer switch for another option of low lighting for baby!

how to decorate nursery on a budget

The changing pad cover also brings another pop of blue – after all this is a baby BOY!

The super soft muslin fabric actually gets softer with every wash. I also have it in the matching crib sheet.

Above the changing table and on the adjacent wall to the right are many awesome finds from Hobby Lobby that fit absolutely perfectly with my theme!

      budget Nursery Closet

Finally, the closet which I use all day every day – so functional!

First, off, I will say that this closet is designed exactly after my sister and besties baby nursery – check her out @The Greenspring Home and see how to build this yourself on her page.

Another project completed by my amazing and talented hubs.

Tons of hanging space and storage in the cubbies – I love love love to organize and be organized and this layout really maximizes the space in the closet.

What is that at the bottom right hand corner you ask? That my friends is a mini fridge!

Yes, my amazing and talented husband also installed an electrical outlet in the closet so that we could store all the baby bottles there!

And on top, we keep the bottle warmer.

It makes feedings very convenient and saves a ton of space in your actual fridge.

I love being able to shut the closet door though so that its not the center of attention when you walk into the nursery.

Speaking of opening and closing doors, one KEY item for a nursery is called a door jam latch cover.

Brilliant! Now you can sneak in and out of baby’s room without making a peep!

how to decorate a baby nursery on a budget

I can’t say enough how much I’ve loved spending so much time in this space.

How did by baby boy just turn one?

Planning a nursery can be fun but also overwhelming.

My recommendation is to pick a theme that you like and then go on google and pick items from different places to incorporate and bring it all together.

You will want to get it all in the space and play with everything to see what works and what doesn’t – you many have to take a few things back so check the return policy!
